For the first big event on our EPSRC-funded network on social computing and mental health, on the 30-31st of May 2015 we are inviting teams of designers, coders, hackers, makers and researchers to Newcastle-upon-Tyne to Create-4-Dementia. The event is organised by our colleagues at Culture Lab (event led by Anja!) and the aim is to bring people together to share ideas, experiences and concepts as well as build digital prototypes that break-down, problematize and otherwise explore the digital design space around dementia and dementia care. Perhaps the most important thread of the event for me is that we particularly want to generate critical, even subversive, provocative designs that might attempt to raise questions rather than provide technologically deterministic solutions. If you have ever had concerns, for instance, about the ethics of robot carers, or the privacy issues surrounding monitoring technology and want to purposefully raise those issues through digital design – then this hack is for you. Register by 14 May 2015.
